Personal branding is a tricky thing. You really need to understand your strengths. In my case, I like using humor, authenticity and a dash of quirkiness in my vision of personal branding. Still, despite best efforts, sometimes it’s just too tough to come up with new and innovative ways to describe what you bring to the table–especially when you’re trying to define that certain je ne sais quoi, those intangible characteristics that make you… well, you.
Today I needed a bio that was fresh and different–and frankly, all my fresh and different got used up by late Tuesday. I couldn’t jumpstart creativity if my life depended on it. So instead I asked people who knew me (and had those same skill sets) to provide some freshness to a dull, albeit accurate, bio. This was the result:
What is there to say about Robin2go? She is loud. She is a chewy center of enthusiasm, wrapped in a shiny candy coating of laughter. She has an uncanny ability to build community around her just by walking into a room. She’s incredibly proud of her notoriety in the higher ed community, her brilliantly red hair, always favors authenticity over political correctness, and can tie any lesson to a Firefly/Serenity quote. Her career highlights include managing to find a job that pays her to play with technology and people, and that, for some unknown reason, people invite her to speak at conferences on community engagement, social networking, organizational outreach, and knitting.
Also, she can kill you with her brain.
