I’m finally back in the saddle at Penn State after two weeks of traveling across the country, and I’m currently sitting at my desk (thank goodness I still have one!), trying to get my thoughts down in somewhat thoughtful blog posts. It’s been a whirlwind, crazy conference schedule, and perhaps it was fitting to have three very different conferences (and focuses) back-to-back, because it helps to highlight some of the key differences and takeaways I found. More on those in subsequent posts this week as I churn them out.
In the meantime, I have to say that I’m glad I went and had the opportunity to represent Penn State and the amazing work we are doing. There were several firsts for me — SIM Tech and EDUCAUSE were new conferences for me to both attend and present. Apparently I didn’t suck, which was a huge relief, and people were able to find some takeaways in my work. I’m grateful for the amazingly positive feedback–thanks to those who provided it. It was a bit odd that people knew of me before I even went to these conferences, but it gave me a valuable opportunity to make connections in real life to people I’d already connected with online and expand my community even further.
So until I’m able to give you some concrete professional development takeaways, I leave you with an entertaining clip that’s been making the internetz lately. It’s my shout out to Shannon Ritter (@micala) my buddy at Penn State and Tonya Joosten (@tjoosten) at University of Wisconsin Milwaukee who introduced me to the social network at EDUCAUSE and helped me navigate my way around. You rocked it, ladies. And everyone else, stay tuned.
