You might have seen a theme in my last few posts. Recently, I’ve been feeling a need jump start my life in a new direction — to push my boundaries, explore new territories, and rediscover the passion in my work. I’ve been incredibly lucky to find amazing opportunities in my current position at Penn State — after all, there are few institutions in higher ed who can boast having a disruptive technologist in residence. (Not that higher ed doesn’t need disruption, mind you; I’m just pointing out that what they need and what they do are often two different things). My focus on teaching and learning with technology has been eye opening in understanding education in higher ed, and being able to say things like “pedagogical affordances” — and actually knowing what it means. But as much as I love the work that I do, there are some things I truly, truly miss being able to focus on. Design. User interface. What makes for an excellent user experience? Being that spark that lights the fire of discovery. Helping people get where they want to go but don’t know how to start. I think maybe it can all be summed up simply by making magic happen for others. I’ve come to realize that it’s finally time for a new pocket of synergy and excitement, and that opportunity lies with my friends at Firebrand Tribe.
I love these women. I’ve worked with them before and they are the embodiment of what I hold dear: Passion. Integrity. Beauty. Creativity. Courage. Leadership. Inspiration. Innovation. They are making magic happen, and I simply cannot pass up an opportunity to be a part of it. So it is with excitement, and passion (and perhaps a twinge of wistfulness), that I say goodbye to dear old State and embrace this path of new opportunity. You folks hold a special place in my heart, and I will always be grateful for what you’ve helped me to become. I’m here for another week, then off to new ventures. Of course I’ll still be here in the Twitters, the blogosphere, and all my assorted media, so none of this wailing and gnashing of teeth; instead, join me on my journey of passion and and keep me company while I rediscover the excitement of igniting the world. You can always like us on Facebook, and we’ll continue the conversation there*. It’s been a real pleasure, people. Thanks for all you’ve given me.
